Description
One of the traditional personifications of Truth is a female figure with scales and a mirror. The mirror may be set with precious stones, but here the stones are in Truth's headband and earrings. The subject was popular in the 1620s and 1630s with Northern followers of Caravaggio. Some scholars consider A653 to be French, c.1630.
